Terms of Service
This is a plain-language draft written to match how the software and service actually work. It is not legal advice. Review the final text before publishing.
What these terms cover
These terms apply to the DemoThat website, the desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux), and the optional cloud upscaling and publishing service. By downloading or using DemoThat, or by buying a license or credits, you agree to them.
Open-source software
The desktop app is free and open source under the GNU General Public License version 3 (GPL-3.0), available with its full source code in the project repository. Your use of the software’s code is governed by the GPL-3.0 license. The website itself is proprietary to the project.
What you may do
- Use DemoThat to record, edit, and export your own videos.
- Exercise the rights the GPL-3.0 grants over the software source code.
- Use the cloud upscaling and publishing features you have paid for.
What you may not do
- Upload content that is unlawful, infringes others’ rights, or that you do not have the rights to process.
- Reverse-engineer, resell, or misuse the cloud service or your license key.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service.
Free tier and paid features
The recorder and editor are free. Cloud upscaling is a paid feature priced per frame, unlocked by a one-time Pro license that includes credits. Credits are consumed only for frames actually upscaled; unused credits remain yours, and cancelling a job returns the unused portion.
Payment
Licenses and credits are one-time purchases processed by a third-party payment provider, subject to that provider’s own terms. Purchases are final once delivered; if a service issue occurs, contact us through the project’s repository.
Availability and disclaimer of warranties
The software and service are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the cloud service. You use the software and service at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DemoThat and its maintainers are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, loss of data, or loss of profits arising from your use of the software or service.
Content you upload
You retain all rights to the videos you record and upload. You grant us only the limited rights needed to provide the cloud features you request (receiving, processing, and delivering or hosting your content).
Changes
We may update these terms as the project evolves. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
